FLORYA RESTAURANT AMSTERDAM

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS / 2017

Cafe design Amsterdam – kanal kenarı cafe restoran cephesi, Florya | CO Mimarlık

On the canal in Amsterdam, we developed an example of cafe design at Florya Amsterdam. We created a contemporary spatial layout that merges with the water; this perspective was the project's starting point and guided all of our design decisions.

Amsterdam Cafe Design: Glass and Water

Large glazed surfaces, open terraces and a pared-back architectural language integrate the interior with the canal view. The venue's position on the water directly shapes its atmosphere and experience; in an Amsterdam café, this relationship with the water is at the heart of the guest experience. We kept the materials, including the floors, simple to support this natural connection.

Canal View and the Indoor–Outdoor Relationship

We placed the canal view and the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces at the centre of the café experience, designing every detail to support this view-focused layout and planning the seating so the view can be seen from every point. This is reflected by a platform showcasing waterfront architecture projects too: a direct relationship with water has become a strong trend in contemporary architecture. This matches Florya Amsterdam's design philosophy directly, and our lighting scheme supports this natural relationship as well.

We maintained the pared-back architectural language in every corner, designing the glazing to blur the boundary between inside and outside and the terraces to make direct contact with the water. You can explore similar work on our international projects page. For us as restaurant interior designers working by the water, this relationship is the most valuable asset of the space. We kept the same simple language in the furniture too.

At Florya Amsterdam, CO Mimarlık developed an Amsterdam café design that combines materials, view and architectural language in a single experience; in short, an original layout that merges with the water. Over time, Florya Amsterdam has become one of the calmest meeting places on the canal, popular with both locals and visitors. The project is a tangible example of bringing architecture and the natural setting together in one language, a consistency that reflects our signature in international projects.
