Meydan Beşiktaş | Open-Air Dining Area Design
Meydan Beşiktaş is an open-air dining area design project we created in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, bringing different food and drink experiences and social life together in a single square to create a lively, dynamic open-air space.
We created timber decks, warm lighting and open seating areas, and placed different food outlets within them. This layout creates a social atmosphere that stays lively at different times of day. The iconic structure, the square's strong focal point, gives the project a distinctive identity, supported by the paving, landscaping and wayfinding elements. In open-air dining areas, too, we apply our restaurant interior design principles.
A Young and Energetic Urban Square
At CO Mimarlık, we designed Meydan Beşiktaş as a concept that supports young, energetic urban life, bringing gastronomy, meeting up and the open-air experience together in one place. This approach complements the gastronomy-focused layout of the Pazaryeri Meydan Beşiktaş project and becomes part of a holistic vision for the square.
In open-air dining design, the role of squares in urban life has always been an important reference point for us. Building on this principle, we created a public space at Meydan Beşiktaş that brings people together and gives everyday life room to breathe. Appealing to different user groups at the same time, such as students, workers and families, was also a priority.
The result is a space that is both aesthetic and functional, hosting a different social experience at every hour of the day: a calm breakfast spot in the morning, a busier social meeting point at lunch and in the evening. This flexibility is one of the project's greatest strengths, integrating Meydan Beşiktaş organically into the daily life of Beşiktaş and making it one of the district's liveliest meeting points. Bringing guests from different parts of the city together around a shared open-air culture, the design is an example of the flexible, inclusive approach to space that contemporary urban life needs.
