MEŞHUR TAVACI RECEP USTA
The Tavacı Recep Usta Alsancak design comes to life in the garden of a historic mansion in Alsancak, İzmir. Our aim was to turn a traditional culinary culture into an original spatial experience that speaks to the senses, preserving the historic fabric while making the garden the restaurant's strongest design element.
How Did We Design the Garden for Tavacı Recep Usta Alsancak?
We noticed old telephone poles in the garden of the historic mansion and made them one of the main design elements from the outset, reusing them to support the trees. Together with pendant lights spread across the garden, they set the rhythm of the space and its night-time atmosphere.
The Palm Tree and the Birdcage
We designed a glass dome around the palm tree at the centre of the garden and turned it into a special aviary home to dozens of nightingales, keeping the trunk of the palm inside as a natural element for living and nesting. Placing the birds' habitat at the heart of the space, the nightingales' song becomes one of the restaurant's most powerful, if invisible, design elements.
Tavacı Recep Usta Alsancak Design: A Sensory Atmosphere
We composed history, landscape, light and birdsong together, creating an original restaurant atmosphere that is not only seen but heard and lived. Every detail was designed to reflect both the brand's traditional identity and the historic fabric of Alsancak.
CO Mimarlık's Approach to Restaurant Design
At CO Mimarlık, in every restaurant design project, we aim to carry the story of the place into the design, and Tavacı Recep Usta Alsancak, designed by our team, is a tangible example of this approach.
The project turns a historic mansion garden into an original experience, a truly sensory restaurant atmosphere for visitors, bringing the traditional brand identity together with the cultural fabric of Alsancak and treating light, landscape and sound as a whole.
