A Nature-Connected Approach to Café Design in Beşiktaş
In Beşiktaş, Istanbul, within the Meydan concept, we developed a Beşiktaş café design project. Coffee Store offers a coffee experience in touch with nature in the middle of busy city life. We created a warm, calm atmosphere, designing the space as a quiet pause within the lively fabric of the square and turning the coffee experience into a breathing space from the pace of the city.
Café Design in Beşiktaş: Materials and Atmosphere
We used natural timber surfaces, adding green textures and copper details, and made the tree form rising at the centre of the space the main point of reference. With these elements we brought coffee culture together with a sense of naturalness and intimacy. An open, flexible seating layout makes Coffee Store more than a coffee stop: a meeting place that complements the social life of the square.
The Relationship Between Space and Atmosphere
At CO Mimarlık, we created a calmer stop within the dynamic atmosphere of Meydan Beşiktaş, one with a natural, inviting identity. During the day it is open to the bustle of the square; in the evening it shifts to a more intimate, inward-looking atmosphere. The space adapts to every hour of the day, showing that calm is possible even in one of the city's busiest squares.
Design Decisions Specific to Beşiktaş
In this café design, the social fabric of the location shaped our decisions as much as materials and layout. Taking Beşiktaş's day–night rhythm into account, we created a versatile space for different groups: a quick break for commuters in the morning and a place for friends to meet in the evening.
This project continues the café design experience we developed in the 6:45 Standart Coffee series. It also reflects the design approach we follow in our other restaurant and café projects as well. This project in Beşiktaş once again shows our vision of building an identity that is consistent across locations yet original every time. In city-centre projects like this, we also draw on our restaurant interior design experience.
