Mexican restaurant design brings the richness and cultural energy of Mexican cuisine into a contemporary spatial experience. Our design for the El Paso branch in İzmir combines retro colours, strong contrasts and characterful details, reinterpreting references from Mexico's vibrant, authentic culture in a contemporary architectural language. El Paso İzmir is a design proposal we developed for Balçova in 2023 that was not built.
Retro Colours and Characterful Details in Mexican Restaurant Design
Colour, texture and characterful details are the project's main design tools, while retro influences merge with a contemporary spatial layout. Colourful surfaces, varied textures and strong contrasts carry the brand's energy into the space. Rather than simply repeating Mexican culture, this approach reflects its character in a contemporary design language. A similar language of colour and texture is often used in leading restaurant designs in Mexico as well. We applied the same care to material choices while striking this balance, and carried the same characterful language through to the floor finishes.
Spatial Layout at El Paso İzmir
The design language we proposed for El Paso İzmir addresses the brand's lively identity and the atmosphere of the space together. Wall finishes, lighting, colour transitions and decorative details work as a whole, creating a consistent, characterful interior throughout the different areas of the restaurant. The seating layout was also planned to support this energetic atmosphere; our aim was for guests to feel the same energy in every corner. The colour and texture combinations proposed in the design support the energy of Mexican culture with a contemporary interpretation, while the retro references are balanced with strong visual details. The result is an original atmosphere that carries the brand's character into the space.
At CO Mimarlık, we developed a Mexican restaurant design for the El Paso İzmir branch, drawing inspiration from Mexican culture and combining retro influences with a contemporary approach. The design aims to strengthen both the brand identity and the guest experience. Although the project was not built, it remains in our portfolio as a design proposal that reinterprets cultural energy in a spatial language.
